Nick, Drew Lachey form TV production company

Cincinnati.com: Wanting to have more control of their TV destiny, brothers Nick and Drew Lachey have formed a Hollywood TV production company they call Flying Pig Productions.

“Only someone from Cincinnati would understand that name,” says Drew with a laugh from his Los Angeles home.

The brothers are pitching four reality series to TV networks, says Drew, who debuts Sunday as host of a four-week reality competition series, “HGTV’s $250,000 Challenge” (10 p.m., HGTV).

They had been talking about starting a company before the pilot was shot last year for “Taking the Stage,” the MTV reality series created by Nick about Cincinnati’s School for Creative & Performing Arts students. Nick, 35, graduated from SCPA in 1992; Drew, 32, graduated in 1994. They became famous first in 98°, their pop vocal band started in 1995.

Pitching and producing shows “is how you control your career. You don’t have to rely on others to bring you opportunities,” Drew says.

Since the last 98° CD released in 2002, Both men have had reality TV successes. Drew won ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” in 2006, and hosted ABC’s “Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann” and the “Miss USA” pageant.

Nick starred with then-wife Jessica Simpson on MTV’s “Newlyweds,” directed Cincinnati’s winning “Clash of the Choirs” ensemble on NBC, and created and produced “Taking the Stage” with MTV. (MTV executives have not decided whether to produce a second “Taking the Stage” season, although the network continued to film at SCPA in April and May. The eight-week first season ended May 7.)

HGTV programmers asked Drew to host the “$250,000 “Challenge” after he taped an “HGTV Showdown” program (to air later this year), and they realized how handy he was around his California house.

“This show is a perfect place for me to go in the next step of my career. This (home improvement work) is something I’m always doing every day in my house,” Drew says.

While shooting the HGTV series, he watched staff assemble the production closely.
in suburban Los Angeles this spring, Drew spent a lot of time watching staffers assemble the production.

“We (Nick and I) had talked about how we need to get more involved behind the scenes,” Drew says. “This was a great experience for me, on a personal and professional level.”

[Video] Nick Lachey And Vanessa Minnillo Have Very Different Prom Memories
Posted by Natasha on May 19, 2009 // Category: News,Videos // Comments (0)

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo seem to have had very different prom experiences back in high school. Minnillo, who grew up all over the country as an Army brat, had a full-on glamorous prom experience, while Lachey, who grew up in Cincinnati, had a more low-budget prom night.

“I always feel like prom was fun, but it was always a little bit of a let-down from all the anticipation and all the butterflies,” Lachey told MTV News. “You get all dressed up and it’s like, ‘This is it?’ I didn’t spring for a limo. I took a rusted-out Toyota — that’s how we did it in Cincinnati.”

Meanwhile, Minnillo’s aggravation came from having to hear her date complain about spending a lot of money to take her to the prom. “The guy wastes a lot of money,” she recalled. “I had to hear about it. ‘I spent money on the limo, money on dinner’ … I’m like, ‘The whole point of prom is to have a good time.’ ”

Despite her date’s complaining, she did call him out on being a bit stingy on the limo rental. “It was a six-person limo,” she said. “And it had 12 of us in it!”

Maxim’s 10th Annual Hot 100 Celebration

MTV News: Vanessa Minnillo knows a thing or two about beauty pageants. The former “TRL” host was Miss Teen USA back in 1998, and she thinks that Miss California USA Carrie Prejean is getting a tough break for making comments on gay marriage and then for the leak of her topless photos.

“This poor girl!” Minnillo told MTV News at the party for Maxim’s Hot 100 list, before her longtime beau Nick Lachey cut her off to wax poetic on the controversy.

“Of course she should have kept her crown. This is what makes America America,” he said. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, and you should be able to say your opinion and not be criticized or penalized for it.”

He added that people shouldn’t have been so upset that Prejean told the Miss USA judging panel that she felt marriage should be between a man and a woman, because she was specifically asked what she thought. “If you don’t want to know someone’s opinion, don’t ask the question,” he said. “How is someone’s opinion wrong?”

As for the topless photos that caused such a stir when they were released? Lachey has an equally positive opinion about that. “And she takes good pictures!”

Posted by Natasha on May 5, 2009 // Category: TV Alert // Comments (0)

In the next ‘One Tree Hill’, Julian gets very jealous when Brooke is in the arm of Nick Lachey while attending Peyton and Lucas’ wedding.

Julian is suddenly 98 Degrees hotter when Brooke brings Nick Lachey as her date to Lucas and Peyton’s wedding. In “Forever and Almost Always”, Peyton and Lucas’ wedding day has finally arrived and surprise guests attend.

Haley plays an unexpected role in the ceremony while Nathan hopes to be called up to the NBA. Skills keeps Jamie on a short leash, and Brooke does the same with Nick Lachey, who plays as himself. Lachey was initially meant to be a guest star in an episode but creator Mark Schwahn had expressed his interest in the character and thus made it a story arc that involves the love triangle of Brooke, Julian and Lachey.

The remaining episode before the season finale, “Forever and Almost Always” is the title derived from Bullet for My Valentine’s single. It will air on Monday, May 11 on The CW. After that the season finale on May 18 will have Peyton delivering her first child.
