Nick Lachey Welcomes Break From Jessica Simpson Media Scrutiny Posted by Natasha on March 17, 2009 // Category: News // Comments (0)
The National Ledger: Nick Lachey’s relationship with Vanessa Minnillo has certainly been the topic of tabloids at times, but the musician, for the most part, has had a break from media scrutiny since his much-publicized marriage to Jessica Simpson. He admits it’s been a welcomed difference. “It’s been a nice change to be a little more private and to have a little more privacy. I realize that the tables can turn very quickly, so I just keep working hard,” Lachey tells us in between filming his guest spot on “One Tree Hill.”
“You learn early on in this business that public intrigue is a big part of it. There are certain aspects of your life that are going to be more looked at and scrutinized than they were before. It comes with the territory. I’ve just learned to live my life as best I can and not worry too much about it.”
Besides promoting his album “Coming Up For Air,” which releases in May, Lachey has been hard at work behind the scenes with the new MTV show “Taking the Stage.” The show, premiering March 19, documents the lives of students at Lachey’s former high school, Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts. “I describe it as a reality show version of ‘Fame.’ It’s the antithesis of ‘Laguna Beach,’” he adds. “It’s a very urban school with an eclectic student body. It’s just a very unique school setting, and the only thing that really matters is talent.”
Lachey, who serves as executive producer on the show, says the project ended up being very near and dear to his heart. “I had such a positive experience at that school. It’s why I’m in this business to begin with,” he notes. “I just thought this would be a great way for me to give back and help the school by raising money for them and raising the level of exposure for them.”
Lachey gives kids the credit Posted by Natasha on March 15, 2009 // Category: News // Comments (0)
Cincinnati.com:”That’s an opportunity I would have killed for when I was at SCPA,” says Nick Lachey, a 1992 School for Creative & Performing Arts graduate.
Thanks to Lachey, students at his alma mater have an extraordinary chance to showcase their talents in MTV’s “Taking the Stage” musical reality series. The 10-week series debuts at 10 p.m. Thursday.
“I’ve been blessed. I’ve had an opportunity to make my mark. This is an opportunity for these kids to make their mark. I’m thrilled and excited for them,” says Lachey, 35, a singer with Cincinnati’s 98° boy band before his MTV reality show “Newlyweds,” with then-wife Jessica Simpson. His new album, “Coming Up For Air,” is due out in May.
The SCPA vocal and instrumental music (saxophone) major pitched the idea to MTV and Cincinnati Public Schools in 2007. The district approved a contract in December with MTV paying CPS $10,000 an episode.
A pilot shot a year ago persuaded MTV executives to come back in the fall to film.
“These kids are showcasing their talent to the country on national TV – and maybe the world,” he says. “The exposure they’re getting from this series for their talent will hopefully take them to a higher level, and make their dreams come true.”
MTV’s decision to commit 10 one-hour shows to “Taking the Stage” is “an extreme compliment” from the network, he says. MTV has options for five more seasons.
Despite being both a creator and executive producer, Lachey isn’t involved with the day-to-day production and doesn’t appear on the show.
He was in an early version of the pilot but was edited out because his presence confused a test audience which thought the show might be about Lachey.
Lachey says he’s very pleased with the episodes crafted by producers Mark Ford and Kevin Lopez (from MTV’s “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County”) and MTV executives.
“There is something about these kids that you can’t take your eyes off of, which is what you want if you want to be a performer. When I watch Tyler (Nelson) and Jasmine (White-Killins) together on the show, I feel like I’m watching a movie,” Lachey says.
He also credits the producers with making the 99-year-old school building and its Over-the-Rhine neighborhood look postcard pretty in the pilot.
“I’m very happy with the finished product, but I can’t take any credit for it,” he says.
Next, on April 27, he’ll make a cameo on The CW’s One Tree Hill. And later in the spring, his album Coming Up For Air will be released – his first since 2006′s What’s Left Of Me.
As Lachey, 35, criss crosses the country promoting the album’s first single, “Patience,” he’s also busily singing the praises of his high school alma mater, Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Which happens to be the setting for Taking The Stage, a 10-episode series that follows five students as they strive for careers as actors, dancers and singers.
‘Don’t Count Me Out’
“I do give a lot of credit to my experience and my time there, in terms of who I am,” Lachey, who studied drama, vocal music, and instrumental music at the school, tells PEOPLE. “When I went to school there I would have killed for this opportunity, to be able showcase not only who I am, but who I am artistically and showcase my talent on a platform like MTV.”
Lachey – who has been dating girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo, 28, for about three years – says that, like most of the other students, he had a competitive streak. “Oh, yeah! Every show you audition for! It was all about competition, and I think that’s what makes the school such a great experience, because when you get out there into the real world and go to auditions, you got to bring your endgame.”
But Lachey admits he occasionally did get a bit cocky: “I remember a time when I was kind of riding a high – I had got a couple of lead [roles] – and I kind of walked into an audition and thought it was mine. But I learned my lesson. I got beat up and I had to take a lesser role.”
If Taking The Stage put Lachey behind the scenes, his cameo on One Tree Hills brings him onto one of TV’s hottest teen shows. And as for his new album, the title says it all. “Coming Up For Air is kind of [saying] “Hey, I’m just taking a break and I’m just coming up for air, and then I’m diving right back down, I’m diving right into it again – so don’t count me out.”
Nick Lachey Loves Dating a Fellow Football Fanatic Posted by Natasha on February 1, 2009 // Category: News // Comments (0)
People.com: Unlike other guys, Nick Lachey doesn’t have to choose between sports night and date night.
“I’m a huge sports fan and she’s a huge sports fan across the board, too,” Lachey, 35, tells PEOPLE of his girlfriend of over two years, Vanessa Minnillo.
“In fact, football night often becomes date night, which is a nice combo for me,” says Lachey, who was in Tampa Bay Friday night hosting a kickoff party for his Super Skins Celebrity Golf Tournament, a Super Bowl charity fund-raiser he hosted with NASCAR Sprint Cup champ Jimmie Johnson. “She’s down to hang out and go to the game. So it’s definitely something we agree on.”
Also joining Lachey and Minnillo at the pre-Super Bowl party, held at Tampa’s new Hula Bay lounge, were Lachey’s brother Drew, and former ‘N Sync member Chris Kirkpatrick, a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

“I hope she’s happy, whatever size she comes in,” Lachey tells Extra. “I wish her nothing but the best.”
Lachey, 35, joins a chorus of other celebs supporting Simpson, 28, including sister Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Kim Kardashian and Heidi Klum.
“I can’t believe it’s this big of a story and people are making such a huge deal about it,” Lachey says. “I’m never ceased to be amazed by people’s reaction to things.”
