People.com: NBC’s tree-lighting extravaganza, Christmas in Rockefeller Center, will be hosted by Nick Lachey, Ashley Tisdale and Al Rocker this year. Special guests include Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Barry Manilow, Taylor Swift, and Carrie Underwood. It sounds like a lot of people but it’s ok, since this area isn’t really crowded during the holidays.
More info:
About: Christmas In Rockefeller Center: Christmas in Rockefeller Center (2007)
NBC heralds the arrival of the holidays with a dazzling display of musical talent and the lighting of the world’s most famous Christmas tree during the 10th annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” telecast. Co-Hosted by Nick Lachey, Al Roker (”Today”), and Ashley Tisdale the star-studded annual tree lighting extravaganza will feature Natasha Bedingfield, Tony Bennett, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Sean Kingston, Taylor Swift, Ashley Tisdale and Carrie Underwood performing current hits and holiday classics from Rockefeller Center in New York City. Broadcast again in high definition, the viewers can expect holiday greetings from many of their favorite NBC stars including Mariska Hargitay (NBC’s “Law & Order: SVU”), Howie Mandel (NBC’s “Deal or No Deal”), Hayden Pantierre (NBC’s “Heroes”) Michelle Ryan (NBC’s “Bionic Woman”) and Donald Trump (NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice”) along with other surprises as the most famous Christmas tree in the world is lit.
The tradition of the Rockefeller Christmas tree dates back to the Great Depression. First erected in 1933, the tree was decked with 700 lights and placed in front of the then eight-month-old RCA Building, now the GE Building. The Christmas tree gathering was enhanced in 1936 with the opening of the Rockefeller Plaza outdoor ice-skating pond. NBC-TV televised the first tree lighting in 1951 on “The Kate Smith Show” and as part of the nationwide “Howdy Doody” television show from 1953-55.
Prior to the network special, WNBC NBC’s New York flagship station will broadcast an additional live hour of the special (7-8 p.m. ET).

Nick Lachey Says 2007 Was a ‘Rebuilding’ Year Posted by Natasha on November 16, 2007 // Category: News // Comments (0) |
People.com: Nick Lachey, who celebrated his 34th birthday with girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo in Las Vegas on Wednesday, says that 2007 has been a year of “rebuilding.”
“I don’t think you can get much worse than the year before,” he tells Extra. “[The year] 2007 has been a rebuilding year for me … music, studio, learning things about who I am as a man.”
The singer famously broke up with ex-wife Jessica Simpson in November 2005 – and their divorce was finalized in December 2006.
But Lachey is not lamenting that he went through hard times. “Any time you learn and grow it’s an exciting time,” he says.
Plus, Lachey has been able to draw on past heartbreak for his career. “As an artist it’s our responsibility to draw on whatever we are going through,” he says. “There have been some great albums that come out of heartbreaking times … my last album.”
Now he says he’s working on a new album and is “excited to get that out in 2008.”

Lachey To Pick Local ‘Reality’ Choir Posted by Natasha on November 8, 2007 // Category: News // Comments (3) |
The Cincinnati Post: NBC has confirmed that Cincinnati’s Nick Lachey will be returning to his hometown to select and direct a 20-member choir that will compete in the network’s “Clash of the Choirs” airing as a holiday special Dec. 17-20.
An open casting call for “Nick’s Choir” will be held 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at Walnut Hills High School, 3250 Victory Parkway. (Note: The location has changed from last week’s initial announcement that tryouts would be held at the School for Creative and Performing Arts.)
The reality show will follow five musical celebrities who return to their hometowns to form choirs and help “discover, nurture and direct a dynamic group of musically gifted, yet amateur singers.”
The other celebrities in the “choir-off” and their hometowns: R&B singer Patti LaBelle (Philadelphia), pop star Michael Bolton (New Haven, Conn.), country singer Blake Shelton (Oklahoma City) and Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland (Houston).
Lachey, the former 98 Degrees member, who grew up in College Hill and graduated from SCPA, will have just a few weeks to mold a choir that will sing traditional gospel and pop songs along with seasonal favorites to compete with the choirs from the other celebrities’ and cities.
Each night of the four-week series, viewers will vote to eliminate a choir from the competition. The winning choir gets a charitable prize package donated to the celebrity’s hometown cause.
Casting directors say at least the first 300 people will be auditioned at Saturday’s tryout and, perhaps, more. Line numbers will be handed out. Participants should bring an application (available at www.nbc.com) and be prepared to sing one song a cappella. For more information on the open casting call, the public is invited to contact Marc Levine at (818) 235-8407.
An NBC spokeswoman said Lachey will not attend this week’s open casting, but he will be in for a follow-up audition expected to be held here in another week to 10 days. It’s expected that about 40 choir wannabes will be selected from Saturday’s tryout, with 20 members to make the final choir.

Brooke Full of Surprises Posted by Natasha on // Category: News // Comments (0) |
PhillyBurbs / The Montclair Times: Jonatha Brooke believes in getting in touch her masculine side — at least that’s the case with her new CD, “Careful What You Wish For.”
“There’s some irreverence on it,” Brooke says. “There’s a very different persona that I explore. There’s this side – a cocky, rocky, almost-like-a-boy personality.”
Brooke, who brings her show to Outpost in the Burbs on Nov. 9, had some help finding the rugged side within. Along with the talent of legendary rock producer Bob Clearmountain (Bryan Adams; INXS), the album features contributions from Nick Lachey (98 Degrees) and J. C. Chasez (*NSYNC), as well as four tunes co-written with Hooters frontman Eric Bazilian.
“I think people got some bug up their nose about the fact that Nick Lachey and J.C. Chasez are mentioned in the credits. I think the second that they saw those names there, some people just lashed out at me and called me a sell-out and that’s crazy. Like it or not, I had a blast working with those guys, so just back off and listen to the record. It’s really fun,” says Brooke.
She couldn’t have been more surprised herself, however, when she got that call from Jive Records A&R rep Teresa LaBarbera Whites asking if she would write some songs for Lachey and Chasez.
“I just thought, “Why not? This could be really fun. It doesn’t cost anything, she’ll pay my expenses and I might get some great songs out of this,’ ” says the multi-instrumentalist, who plays acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, piano, mellotron, Wurlitzer organ and percussion on “Careful What You Wish For.”
“What worked in the case of Nick, it was so easy to sort of feel what might be going on for him. It was really a tough time for him. He was going through all this tabloid crap and supposedly breaking up with Jessica (Simpson). So Eric and I met him and came into the sessions with really big pieces of the songs. We were trying to write from what it was like being in his shoes right then and it was powerful.”
Lachey ended up covering one of her older songs, “Because I Told You So,” for his solo debut “What’s Left of Me,” while Brooke saved “Keep the River on Your Right,” a song Lachey helped pen, for her own album.
Chasez contributed lyrically to the disc’s first two tracks, including the title cut, to which he also lends his vocals.
“That guy sings circles around the room. He is insanely talented. I’ve never worked with anyone like that before,” says Brooke. “He could do anything. He’s such a fearless singer.”
Though the album straddles the line between lustrous pop melodies and sardonic rock, Brooke remains, as always, a storyteller and keen observer. As the title might suggest, “Careful What You Wish For” turns a wry eye to the clichd world of celebrity, where fame and beauty often mask deep insecurities and heartache.
