Cincinatti.com: New Year’s Eve revelers can spend part of their evening with “Team Lachey,” which performs at 8 p.m. Monday on Fountain Square downtown.

The group will sing “Flight of the Bumblebee” and “What a Wonderful World.” The choir, made up of local residents and led by Cincinnati native Nick Lachey, propelled Cincinnati into the national spotlight Dec. 20 when it won “Clash of the Choirs,” an NBC reality show.

The prize is a $250,000 donation for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Mayor Mark Mallory will introduce the choir Monday night. Lachey is unable to attend, but 18 of the 20 choir members will perform. The free performance is part of the Fountain Square New Year’s Eve Blast, presented by Duke Energy.

NASCAR champion Johnson, Nick Lachey form charity golf tournament
Posted by Natasha on December 21, 2007 // Category: News // Comments (0)

Pop singer Nick Lachey is in a sort of duo act with NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson.

They tell The Associated Press they’ve partnered to form the Super Skins Celebrity Golf Classic, to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona, in conjunction with the Super Bowl.

Johnson says he’s been trying for some time to organize an event with Lachey, who grew up in Cincinnati. The two have been friends for years, and Lachey is a frequent guest at NASCAR races.

They usually attend the Super Bowl together and decided it was a perfect venue for their first charitable event.

Each hole will be worth $20,000, to be given to the winning team’s charity of their choice.

Congratulations Nick and Team Cincinnati

Jazz professor is choir’s secret weapon
Posted by Natasha on December 16, 2007 // Category: News // Comments (5)

Cincinnati.Com: This is not your mother’s gospel choir.

Cincinnati’s 20-member “Clash of the Choir” ensemble will sing pop, R&B, country, Christmas and a little gospel music with a jazz twist. Think Manhattan Transfer, the Grammy-winning vocal group.

“One of the appeals of this show is that it’s an opportunity to take a choir setting and do it somewhat unconventionally,” says Nick Lachey, the celebrity choir director and 1992 School for Creative & Performing Arts graduate.

“I want our Cincinnati choir to be known for its ability to do a lot of different types of things well,” he says.

Lachey’s secret weapon in the four-night TV competition is choir coach Stephen Zegree, the Bobby McFerrin professor of jazz at Western Michigan University. He wrote the lively eight-part harmony arrangements and directed rehearsals at Xavier University.

Lachey to team: Win, and sing on my album

Cincinnati.com: Nick Lachey has added an incentive for the Greater Cincinnati singers he’ll direct on NBC’s “Clash of the Choirs.”

The 20-member choir will sing on his next album, if Cincinnati wins the five-city TV competition.

“That was my promise to them: If we win, we’ll do a song together. They can sing background on my album. I’ll bring them all in the studio,” says Lachey, who plans to release a new single early next year and an album in the spring.

Choir members were surprised, says Nick Wall, 20, of Green Township.

“At first we didn’t believe him,” says Wall, a 2006 Oak Hills High School graduate who sings at the First Baptist Church of Dent. “It would be unbelievable to be featured on his next album.”

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center also will benefit from a victory. Lachey has designated the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit to receive NBC’s cash prize for the winning city Thursday.

New Nick blog!
Posted by Natasha on // Category: News // Comments (0)

hello everyone! i know that it’s been a long time since i last did
one of these. i have to get better at this whole technology thing!
well, things have been very busy since i last wrote. i’m still in the
studio finishing up the last few songs for the album. i expect that
it will be coming out next spring. as i said before, i think you all
are going to like it very much. it’s definitely a step in a new
direction, but in a very good direction. i can’t wait to get it out
there for everyone to hear.

i also had the opportunity to be a part of a great project with
diane warren and oprah winfrey. oprah produced a television movie
called “for one more day” and i was honored that she asked me to sing
the theme song for the movie. it is a song called “ordinary day” and
it was written by diane warren, the most prolific songwriter ever! i
hadn’t worked with diane since 98 degrees first album in 1996, so it
was great to have the opportunity again. i will be performing the
song on the oprah winfrey show on december 5th, so check that out if
you get a chance and be sure to watch the movie on december 9th on
abc. it really is a good film. you can also download the song on
itunes if you want to.

i’ve also been involved in a few television projects recently. maybe
some of you saw me co hosting the tree lighting at Rockefeller center
in NYC. it was a lot of fun and a great way to get into the holiday
spirit. some of you may have also seen the promos on nbc for a show
called “clash of the choirs” that i’m a part of. it’s going to be a
lot of fun. kelly rowland, michel bolton, patti labelle, and blake
shelton are also doing the show. each of us went back to our
hometowns and formed choirs that we will be competing with in NYC
starting on december 17th on nbc. the choirs will the be voted on by
the viewers throughout america and the winner will be decided on
december 20th. this is where you guys come in. i need everyone to
vote for my choir and help us win the “clash of the choirs”
championship. i’m really proud of the choir i have from cincinnati
and i can’t wait for everyone to hear them starting on december 17th.
i also have a couple of tv shows that i’m producing which should be
coming out in the next 6 months and i’ll tell you more about that later.

as always, i want to thank everybody for your continued support and
wish everybody a very safe and happy holiday season!
